There is great benefit to learning to eat the foods you love in moderation. No one is saying you can't lose weight, be fit, and still eat birthday cake, a Sunday roast, and Holiday treats. However, sometimes breaking out of your regular routine can give your healthy eating a jumpstart. Here's how:

No doubt we are living in a strange world. On the one hand, food companies have found countless ways to deliver us food that's quick and tasty but is closer to an edible science experiment than actual food. On the other hand, stores like Whole Foods have made the notion of healthy eating more mainstream. How can you balance the two? Why not try adding a healthy meal into your diet once a day or even a few times a week. Learning to eat foods in their natural form is a part of one of our 10 Healthy Habits called Savoring Your Food.

RAW: A raw diet consists of eating completely uncooked foods. Your staples would be smoothies (a blissful one to try: almond milk, frozen banana, hemp powder, spirulina, apple juice and a handful of berries), salads and sprouted nuts and grains. Eating live foods can give you a burst of energy and vitality.

VEGAN: A vegan diet consists of vegetables, whole grains, beans and fruits. It avoids any animal products (dairy, eggs and meat). This type of diet was made popular by the book Skinny Bitch. Eating one meal a day that is full of whole grains and vegetables can be nutritious and delicious.

MACROBIOTIC - This consists of a balance of unprocessed foods including fish, sea vegetables, beans and whole grains (usually brown rice). Celebrities like Madonna and Gwenth Paltrow have openly discussed the benefits of eating this kind of diet. It also refers to eating slowly and chewing thoroughly.

Hippocrates said, "let your food be your medicine." Part of recovering your power is knowing how particular foods affect your physical and mental health. By experimenting with different styles of eating you might find yourself feeling completely energized, refreshed and invigorated.

I follow a well balanced portion controlled healthy diet to lose weight. Cutting calories but eating low caloried healthy foods with high fiber keeps me from being hungry. I also cut out all sugar and white flour, eating whole grain foods wtih high fiber. I do treat myself with organic dark chocolate from time to time. It has to become a lifestyle and not a diet.

I have learned a phrase that serves: "as much as possible". To incorporate more veggies and natural foods, while reducing processed foods "as much as possible" allows occasional less-than-ideal foods without throwing one totally off course and loading up on guilt and sense of failure. The more you eat the healthier choices the better you feel and the less draw to the other foods. Life does not always allow for 100 compliance, but "as much as possible" helps move you closer to that higher goal.

To include more water in my diet, I never allow myself to eat anything without drinking a good amount of water along with it.

I have just finished the 12 week program and have finaly had some success.I have been eating a high protein low carb diet that really allows you to eat 3 well balanced meals a day ,you are never hungry ,feel fantastic, have heaps of energy and every morning find you are smaller...it is the easiest way to trim down. I have had a few days of treats where I had a dessert or pasta meal but bounced back the fllowing and continued on to loose more. Once the first 3 days are over you stop craving sweet foods and the energy boost far outways the desire to eat heavy carbs...lots of water as well Thanks

I have gone on a high raw diet several times (by diet I mean trying to permanently change my diet to high raw) and always felt my best when eating raw. TONS of energy, constant good mood, better sleep, better sex! Glowing skin and slow constant healthy weight loss. I recommend it HIGHLY! I still have a terrible cooked food addiction/emotional eating that has kept me from staying on the Raw diet, but I LOVE how I feel when I eat raw.
